XS Labs' dresses test human endurance to generate power
Bharat | Sep 15 2009

Clothing is something we can’t do without in public, and electronic gadgets are something we can’t do without just anywhere. Exaggerated maybe, but factual lately. Giving clothing the power to generate electricity, XS Labs is doing a collection of garments under the code names of Captain Electric and Battery Boy. The idea here is to create body-worn, textile-based living organisms to address the issue of power consumption and sustainability.

The garments collection includes three wearable artifacts - Sticky, Itchy and Stiff. These styles tab body motion in variety of ways, i.e. internal and external stimulus. The three will be designed to passively harness energy directly from the body movement and actively allow the user to generate power for his petty needs. Check XS Labs Flickr photo stream for more detailed images.

Because the whole process is going to be discomforting, it’ll take a toll on the limits of the human body – thus the quantity of power produced will depend on the level of discomfort and extenuation the user’s willing to endure. I am ready to take the toll for sustainable living, are you game?
