
After five years of development, Nanosolar announced its innovative product ’solar film’. Nanosolar is able to print solar panels with the help of machines that are like printing presses. It says that it is going to produce solar panels at world’s lowest cost and the cost will be 99 cents per watt.
The three commercial solar panels will be used up in definite way. The first one will remain at Nanosolar for exhibition, the second one will be open for all to buy from and auction on ebay and the third one will be donated to the Tech Museum in San Jose.
Nanosolar is known as the Silicon Valley start-up that is very heavily financed. Now the company is $150 million and has built up a 200,000 sq. ft factory.
This company is only few years old but is planning to take over multinational companies like BP and Sharp in the solar industry. Nanosolar will print CIGS (copper-indium-gallium-selenium) onto a thin polymer to make a solar film.
