Wearable rescue robot can open doors during emergencies
Naresh Chauhan | Mar 11 2010

Robots have been our trusted companions for some time now, assisting us in accomplishing numerous routine as well as skilled tasks. Strengthening the bond between man and machine, Japanese robot manufacturer BL Autotec has come up with a remote-controlled robot hand that connecting to an emergency robot can grip and turn doorknobs to open doors safely during emergencies, such as nuclear, biological and chemical disasters. Featuring a built-in CCD camera and an LED light to let you operate it remotely in dark areas with ease, the 34kg robot makes use of four shafts to move up to 1m and shift hazardous materials. In addition, the robotic hand can be molded for industrial applications. Priced at $110,000, the arm and the robotic platform will be available by 2013.
