It has been established and is understood that the human brain can work wonders at a subconscious level. Researchers have studied intensively about how the brain of a mentally disabled person can be extraordinarily brilliant in a lot of ways. As an extension of this, researchers from Sydney University have developed a technique called the Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation. Nicknamed the “thinking cap,” the device apparently triggers magnetic pulses that in turn activate the left side of the brain responsible for a person’s “artistic abilities and proofreading skills.” Apparently, further honing can help “savants” or mentally gifted disabled people to harness the creativity of their brain.
What’s Innovative: The thinking cap further establishes the fact that the subconscious can be stimulated externally, to help people display their hidden talents. Strangely, it works only for the period the cap is worn. Once the magnetic pulses are withdrawn, the brain is restored to its original right-side dependent state.
Watch This: We gather that this technique has unbelievable potency. “Zapped” volunteers were able to draw more “naturally,” proofread better, calculate more efficiently, and do a bunch of other activities that would normally require more than just a regular effort. Application of this technique can go a long way in studying a savant’s brain and also in tapping their under-utilized capabilities.
