Wartsila-Sulzer RTA96-C: World's most powerful fuel guzzler

This engine, built by Aioi Works of Japan’s Diesel United, Ltd. for a container ship, is an oil guzzler that burns 1,600 gallons of heavy fuel oil per hour at its most efficient power setting.

Named as The Wartsila-Sulzer RTA96-C turbocharged two-stroke diesel engine, it surpasses others not only in size, but also in power, which makes it the most efficient prime-mover in the world today. It has a length of 89 feet and stands as high as 44 feet. The total engine weight comes to be 2300 tons, out of which crankshaft alone weighs 300 tons. In terms of power it’s the most powerful engine that provides 108,920 hp at 102 rpm with maximum torque of 5,608,312 lb/ft at 102rpm.
