Bhagaban Sahu | Oct 26 2007

NEC Corporation has announced the launch of its supercomputer, dubbed as SX-9. It is the most powerful supercomputer in the world till today featuring high-speed scientific computation system and ultra high speed processor.

The Japanese hardware giant will showcase the high profile computer at the forthcoming iExpo 2007 in Reno, Nevada next month.

The fastest vector supercomputer SX-9 will be highly useful for advanced weather forecasting, aerospace, fluid dynamics, environmental simulation and polymeric design, explains NEC.

The SX-9 has the ability to calculate 839 teraflops or 839 trillion floating point operations per second.

The term ’supercomputer’ is itself vague. A supercomputer of today is a normal computer of tomorrow. This has been happening from the day when the term ‘computing’ was first coined. However, NEC has now an edge over IBM and Cray Inc in the computer world with this vital launch.
