Sony Vaio JS1 slimline desktop goes the iMac way
Alpheus | Sep 30 2008

Portability has become a key USP-determining element today. It is strange, though, that at times even gadgets with the best of features are trashed because of their cumbersome nature. However, we can’t complain much if manufacturers like Sony come out with products like the Vaio JS1. A desktop with a monitor-integrated CPU and hard drive, the JS1 seems to have taken after iMacs in sleekness and portability. The 20.1 inch computer is powered by an Intel 2.53GHz E7200 Core 2 Duo with a 1066MHz BUS. A heavyweight in terms of features, the JS1 includes a massive 500GB HDD capacity, 3GB of memory, 802.11n Wi-Fi, integrated webcam, and an Intel GMA X4500 for the high-definition display.

Pricing & Availability: Sony is yet to announce details on the pricing and availability of the JS1.

Watch This: One of the features in the JS1 we are looking forward to is the Sony Reality signal processor chip. Apparently, in conjunction with the Dolby Home Theatre feature, this chip offers “virtual surround sound” like never before. And if we have to go by looks and features, the slimline PC is worth an investment.

Word around the Web:

David Walker from T3 says:

If you like the look of an iMac, but still have doubts about making the jump, Sony has done you a favor - introducing the iMac-like VAIO JS1.

Patrick Goss from Techradar says:

The Vaio S1 is aimed at those people who don’t want to take up too much room with a PC.
