Samsung aiming for the biggest yet — 11G LCD by 2010
Bharat | Oct 31 2008

Even after exhibiting the 0.05mm thick Flapping Display panel, bagging the title for screen thinness, Samsung Electronics intends to give no respite to the tech fraternity. The next crown which ignites the Co’s core is one for the biggest LCD display. We have heard of the 11G LCD for over a year now, but nothing really novel has been identified with it anytime yet. The FPD International 2008 is on, and Samsung has made a claim there – the company will invest in the next generation of LCD panels and 11G displays could be made a reality as early as 2010-2011. Won-Kie Chang, executive vice president said, 11G substrate product line will be in sheets measuring 3320×3000mm against 3200 x 3600mm proposed late last year. Jumping straight to 11G may not go down our gut comfortably – given the economic crises and customer satisfaction which could jeopardize the future of LCDs. However, LCDs have come a long way with contrast ratios, price cuts, viewing angles, et al... and Chang firmly believes only capability to develop new applications and attain a growth momentum, would decide the industry’s fate.
