Rugged Atom-powered in-vehicle computers by Rave Computer

Rave Computer has announced a new rugged fanless computer called the MIL-SPEC-810F at the MILCOM 2009 exhibition. Designed to be an in-vehicle computer or for robots, it is stuffed in with an Intel 1.6 GHz Atom N270 processor that keeps the power consumption to the minimum, while the compact, rugged and flexible design make the system highly suitable for all vehicles in almost all conditions.

Being fanless, the system can still operate in temperatures ranging from -30 C to 60 C (-22 F to 140 F) and run on 6 - 36 VDC. This just adds so much to the 2GB RCV 6100, that for the “IO includes a PCI-104 expansion connector, 2 mini PCI express slots, compact Flash and SIM slots, GB Ethernet, 802.11b/g/n, GSM or WCDMA, Bluetooth, GPS, 3 USB ports, 2 RS-232, 1 RS-485, 1 LVDS, 1 VGA, 1 DVI-D, audio in and out, 4 GPIO ports (4 in and 4 out).” There isn’t a word on the price for the Rave yet but we learn the system can run GNU/Linux on it. Great upgrade for the car; thoughts?
