The latest entrant on the intelligent robots’ list is the RP-7 robot, which has been functioning as an around-the-clock physician at the Ryder Trauma Center at the University of Miami/Jackson Medical Center in Florida. Standing 5 feet tall, this Wi-Fi-enabled robot by InTouch Health roams around the wards in the trauma center, letting the patients and on-site staff communicate with the off-duty doctors wirelessly via a monitor mounted on top of the robot’s body.
The best part about the robot is that it connects a doctor to a patient, allowing the two to converse even when the concerned doctor is not on duty; this would definitely minimize the casualties that occur in a doctor’s absence, because now the doc can stay informed of the patient’s health 24×7.
The robot has a very sensitive Wi-Fi strength so the university medical center has built a pervasive Meru Wi-Fi network of 3,500 APs that have been installed everywhere in the center. The medics here believe the robot has great applicability in battlefields, where doctors would be able to help treat a wounded soldier wirelessly through the robot’s assistance.
