Taiwanese researchers have clubbed up a few robotic traits and have dramatically fitted them into a single robot, now capable of multiple chores. Dubbed Monica, the 60kg robot can fit into the shoes of a receptionist, a tour guide, a security guard or a doctor’s assistant fulfilling the task thus associated to the best capability.

Monica films people to recognize them before they are let into the building where it sits as a receptionist, or can send an emergency text message to a human security guard advising him to take action in case some suspicious activity is detected. The robot can give out directions to people when in a guide’s avatar and can also interact remotely between doctors and patients as the formers assistant.

The researchers have tagged up with manufacturers to mass produce Monica robot, the bot when ready was cost about $12,500, (i.e. Taiwan dollars 400,000). In appreciation of what they have developed, project leader and professor at National Taiwan University Ren Luo said:

Within the robot community, this (Monica) is pretty impressive because it can replace so many human functions.
