Researchers develop touchable holography system
Vineet Chauhan | Aug 7 2009

It is impossible to touch light and that you can only see it was a thing of the past. Now, a touchable holography system, fabricated by researchers at The University of Tokyo, simulates the sense of touch when someone touches a holographic image, which is of course, just light.

This system utilizes an Airborne Ultrasound Tactile Display to produce the tactile sensation on a person’s hand, while Wiimotes track its movements. The quality of the holographic projection remains intact, even when touched. This technology was displayed at SIGGRAPH conference 2009. Now you don’t really have to “touch it” to “feel it.” Video after the break.
