Researchers create medical testing device that detects viruses instantly
Bharat | Dec 22 2009

Giving doctors a really healthy platform to help make virus detection simpler and instant, a research team at the Brigham Young University has developed Lab on a Chip, an inexpensive silicon microchip that reliably detects viruses, even at low concentrations. The microchip has been tested with patients and the developers are convinced that it successfully captures viruses for a sample. Screen infection particles by size over time, the chip can accumulate (like coin sorters) many suggestive particles which can be missed by the cumbersome and inaccurate techniques currently followed. The researchers have developed this medical testing tool as a Lab on a Chip, which is innovatively done by creating an ultra-thin gap on the chip that traps viruses.
