Playful learning: Science based toys to groom your kids
Piyush | Sep 7 2007

Make learning feel like play and give school kids a boost right from the age of 6. Scientists are not born, they need to be groomed and what better way than toys. A new line of science based toys have been introduced in the market that will help the students aged 6 and above to enhance their learning and develop a liking for science from kindergarten itself. ToyQuest and Mad Science have included five line items in their bucket to improvise upon the aforementioned agenda.

List of the line items

1) Hydraulic Robotic Arm (powered completely by water)
2) Dinosaur Curator Set
3) The Egg Drop Challenge
4) Bubble Experiment Lab
5) Goo and Slime Maker

In Detail

1) Hydraulic Robotic Arm: No batteries.. No external power source... That’s right! With fun, kids will be introduced to hydraulics wherein, simply by pumping the robot’s arm one can generate energy to clutch, move, lift and stack. It retails for US$29.99.

2) Dinosaur Curator Set: in addition to the Jurassic park fever over the kids a new product has been introduced wherein, simply by molding the bones kids can recreate it to its original state by adding a gel mix. It retails for US$14.99.

3) The Egg Drop Challenge: This is an exercise many of us no doubt undertook at school. Using over 80 reusable pieces kids can design and build a structure sturdy enough to protect an egg through a freefall and landing. This activity is designed to improve engineering and problem solving skills while learning about gravity and terminal velocity. (US$9.99).

4) Bubble Experiment Lab: physics and chemistry, oooh I hate it! I can just repent over the fact that in my school days we never had the opportunity to experiment with the Bubble Experiment Lab..... The Lab features a battery-powered fan and smoke generator which allow kids to create smoke filled bubbles, bubbles inside of bubbles, square bubbles and more (US$34.99).

5) Goo and Slime Maker: It’s based on the science of polymers and features a motorized mixing chamber and all the ingredients needed to create goo and slime (US$29.99)

This sounds pleasing but when it comes to playing, I still feel kids would any day prefer to hit the dirty mud and explore the outdoor amenities and why not... Exertion would certainly help kids to stay fit and learn few other practical aspects (togetherness, bonding, teamwork and unity).
