Amazon is the front runner in the e-book market. But we sincere geeks never appreciate monopoly and therefore since the CES when it was first seen, we were longing to hear something from Plastic Logic and its e-book reader. Come All thing’s Digital D7 and LaptopMag has managed to get their hands onto the touchscreen e-newspaper reader (that’s how they prefer it to be called). Measuring as thin as .27-inches, the plastic reader is the size of an A4 sheet, and is best suited for business markets rather than the educational arena as the lately introduced, Amazon Kindle 2 was hyped.
Being thinner than the most e-book readers out there, the Plastic Logic’s e-reader with 8.5 x 11-inch e-Ink touchscreen display requires tabs to switch between documents and horizontal swipes to turn over the pages. The e-ink display takes about four seconds for the content to adjust or turn the page, but the device is designed to feature PDF files and the standard Microsoft Office documents with access to e-stores for books and newspapers over 3G or Wi-Fi. There is still time before the Kindle has a threat, for Plastic Logic isn’t selling the reader anytime before 2010.
