Students don’t often venture into designing music instruments for their bachelor’s thesis. Therefore, we weren’t really sure what the outcome would be when someone tried his hands to build one. But if Henrik Amberla’s Pilcrow electronic instrument concept, he created for his bachelor’s thesis for TaiK, is considered, we can confidently conclude that the result is more than pleasant. Combining elements of both string and percussion apparatus, the Pilcrow is a steel rod that is played by either hitting or plucking. Compatible with all standard plugs, wires and amplifying devices, it is dictated by a natural human seating position. Henrik Amberla, student of the University of Art and Design Helsinki, Finland, demonstrate the use of his instrument in a video, just hit the jump to see.
