New malaria detection device for faster diagnostics

Malaria is a fatal disease, especially when the type is not detected. Many people lose their lives in the African region owing to the same problem. A group of scientists from the University of Glasgow claim that they have succeeded in creating a microchip-laden device that detects malaria within no time.

The disease can go undetected without the aid of such gadgets, for one only realizes the problem when the body succumbs to heavy fever. All that a patient is required to do is to place his blood sample in the microchip and the result is obtained. Video after the jump.

The precise detection of the type of malaria and the level of strain helps with apt medication, as the doctors are sure of using the best possible drug. People traveling abroad can use this device as a personal safety gadget, especially if traveling to the underprivileged regions of the world.
