NEC Japan has delivered an updated version of their previously revealed robotic helper, the PaPeRo, just in time for the International Robot Exhibition 2009. PaPerRo R500, as they call the new lad, is stuffed in with specially-made face recognition software, courtesy which the robot can recognize up to 30 people. Capable of performing about 200 different chores, the robot having recognized people he deals with can alter its behavior to converse with each in a manner best suited to the concerned person. Using Li-ion battery to keep itself in mobility, doing stuff it is made for, the 38cm tall and 6.5kg robot automatically returns to the charging station when it’s gone out of juice, say after about 100 minutes of rigorous labor. If you’re in Japan, and want PaPerRo R500 at your service, then $600 per month is all you have to pay to get it home.
