MPEG Surround Sound to be the norm soon
Vikas Shekhawat | May 25 2006

Forget about surround-sound, MPEG Surround is the latest buzz in the ever-developing surround-sound technology segment. Stealing the show at the Audio Engineering Society Expo, MPEG Surround, is ’scheduled to become an international draft standard in July, is a parametric coding technology that uses multichannel audio signals.’

MPEG Surround Sound technology simply transform MP3, MPEG-4 AAC or MPEG-4 HE-AAC audio signals into high-quality multichannel surround audio. MPEG Surround technology is pitched much above the ubiquitous 5.1-channel Dolby Digital that sucks in more bandwidth and allowing backward compatibility.
