Mobile robot that can guide people through obstacles
Bharat | Nov 24 2009

Developed by NSK Ltd is a wheeled mobile robot capable of maneuvering through obstacles guiding people around. The robot uses laser based range sensors to detect obstacles and then based on the obstacle’s distance and direction calculates hypothetical repulsive forces. Applying the repulsive force to affect the robot can changes commands and thus guide the person accordingly through obstacles.

For controls the, the two wheeled robot that also has an active cluster wheel in place, has a handle embedded, which allows the user to suggest the desired direction and speed of movement. The robot understands the instructions delivered by the user with the handle, and therefore follows it to chalk out direction and speed of movement all the while avoiding obstacles in the path. The robot will be on display at International Robot Exhibition 2009, from Nov 25 to 28, 2009, at Tokyo Japan.
