Microsoft to bring DRM to phones
Vikas Shekhawat | Apr 6 2006

Moving ahead of its most widely used Windows Media DRM, Microsoft is planning to bring phones too under the DRM trap. Microsoft revealed at the CTIA Wireless tradeshow in Las Vegas its plans to enable new mobile entertainment options and is discussing the matter with several wireless firms.

Kevin Johnson, co-president of the Platforms & Services Division at Microsoft said:

We’re responding to our wireless partners around the world who are asking for a solution to enable new scenarios in the industry. We want to give consumers what they want — seamless experiences with premium content on a wide range of mobile devices.

With its move Microsoft is targeting the untapped mobile content and entertainment market and believes in pressing forward mobile multimedia applications with ‘anywhere everywhere’ protected digital bits.
