In-Plane Switching is a technology developed by Hitachi. It is used to provide wide viewing angles on LCDs. LG is bringing In-Plane Switching (IPS) and double frame rate technology together to enhance user experience of viewing movies on ultra-thin full HD LCD TVs. LG is planning to ship more than 100,000 LCD TVs in Taiwan market in 2008. The IPS technology will provide 176 degrees of wide-angle viewing and that too without distorting the image (color-wise). The IPS technology uses simple revolving parallel movement of liquid crystal elements (w.r.t. glass substrates) to make wide-viewing angle possible. Color changes are so minute that image can be viewed from any angle, vertical or horizontal.
