Kopin bags US military deal to develop world’s highest resolution micro-display
Sameer Kumar | Dec 4 2008

It is no surprise that what is considered as cutting edge technology when it comes to civilian products is actually ancient history that the military has already used and discarded. Each year the military orders special technology to be developed for its own use, and it is this technology that ultimately filters to down to us. Kopin Corporation has bagged a similar development deal from the US military and US marines which gives it a sum of $3.1 million for the development of the world’s highest-resolution micro-displays for use in future vision systems.

The resultant display with immaculate resolution will be achieved by Kopin by developing an active matrix liquid crystal display (AMLCD) with a 2048 x 2048 monochrome pixel resolution in a 0.99-inch-diagonal form factor. This will supposedly result in what is being considered as the world’s highest resolution micro-display, which will help both the Marines and the army keep a closer eye on targets and intruders. This will enable target identification at extreme ranges and will help in resolution immensely. Kopin has been working on the cutting edge of optical technology for the US military for a while now, and this is another feather in their cap.
