New high-precision image-matching device was unveiled by Japanese scientists on Tuesday. This device scans images of victims’ teeth and compares them with the dental records of unidentified people. This is not first time that dental record matching technique is used, but this one promises to be lot faster and efficient than those available.
When numerous people are killed in disasters like earthquake, floods etc then experts use dental records for identifying bodies. This process can take weeks and is not fully reliable, said Eiko Kosuge, a dentist and radiologist at Kanagawa Dental College in Japan.
Newly launched device can compare numerous dental records to victim’s teeth and get a result in less than four seconds. High-precision image-matching technique is used to match images; this technique has been named Phase-only correlation.
