Scientists at the University of Hertfordshire have an idea for a house that can open and shut the doors, switch the lights on and off and operate the cooling system autonomously. It can even text us if any door has been left open. This invention christened, the “InterHome,” is fitted with a network of infrared sensors wired to a central computer.
Software algorithms are designed to calculate which room will be occupied, based on a common trend of room usage, and so accordingly switch on the lights and AC’s, when required, and otherwise switch them off. A doll-house sized prototype of the InterHome is currently being studied for its bigger implications. This house can cut down on the electricity bills and carbon emissions, and make this world greener and homes more secure.
The “smart house” was a finalist in the Microsoft Imagine Cup held in Cairo.
