Train commuters in Tokyo are getting to see some most advanced technology of the decade that is E-Papers.
Usually commuter trains in Tokyo are filled with some standard paper advertisements. But Hitachi wants to change the trend and has installed e-paper displays on three commuter trains in Tokyo.
The 13.1-inch displays are attached on the front and the rear carriage of three commuter trains. These displays are then connected to smaller units that contain some high-end electronics and an 8MB memory that can store 37 advertisements.
The display shows each ad for a period of two minutes before changing it with the next one.
The quality of the displays is not that good as they can only display a resolution of only 50dpi using only eight colors. The displays don’t have an integrated backlite which makes it even more difficult to read.
The feed back from the masses will enable the company to further enhance the quality of the displays.
Till that time the commuters will have to strain their eyes if they want to read the matter on the displays.
However I wonder who has the time to read an advertisement on a difficult to read display and that too if you are already late for office...!
