This is not the first time that attempts have been made to formulate way for wireless power. U.S. researchers from Massachusetts Institute of Technology made a pad that used some old physics concepts like resonance to delivers power to other devices brought into contact of this device.
This new invention by University of Tokyo is very similar in functioning but is based on a different concept. The researchers have created a plastic sheet that is one millimeter thick and can deliver 40 watts of power to the objects placed on it or nearby. The plastic sheet uses pentacene, which is an organic molecule with controllable electrical conductivity.
The picture here shows a bulb lit inside a fishbowl that is placed on this plastic sheet. The technology is really good but who knows when is it going to hit the market?
