DuPont ‘Gen 3’ solution-based OLED can last a 100 Years
Atul | Jun 24 2009

The vapor-deposited materials could well become a technology of the past as DuPont has succeeded in developing a solution-based OLED materials technology that can last a million hours or 100 years of constant use. The development has in turn benefited printable OLED light emitting materials. A couple of other (blue) Gen 3 materials developed would directly set new standards for longevity and color.

A direct consequence of this technology would be the rise of low-cost OLED displays for mobile devices, notebook PCs and even televisions. This would effectively bring down the cost of electronic devices which would embrace this technology. One of the OLEDs developed runs a lifetime of 38,000 hours while another sits pretty at 41,000 hours. It is only a matter of time before the Gen 3 would conquer the ever-growing OLED market.
