Gear up for the digital quantum battery, which scientists at the University of Illinois believe could be made possible sometime in the future. If the penned thoughts could materialize then in the digital quantum batteries, we could be looking for a battery that’s accompanied by an immensely fast charging ability and is capable of holding almost 10 times the energy the best lithium-ion battery can hold today.
The concept that the scientists have proposed deems to pack a battery with microscopic capacitors built from electrodes 10nm apart from each other. This closeness affects the energy storage capacity of the capacitors, which will boost charging time to several orders of magnitude quicker and the energy storage capacity to almost 10x that of the present day lithium-ion batteries. Scientists believe a prototype could be built in a year, but to go ahead they are looking for some backing to fund the research.
