DARPA plans synthetic organisms which can live forever
Bharat | Feb 8 2010

Sci-fi adventures of the Pentagon’s mad science agency (DARPA) continue with theie latest venture to create synthetic organisms. Known as Biodesign this is part of a $6 million project, wherein DARPA wishes to build synthetic organisms which can live forever, or die when their masters want them dead. The notion that makes us rethink the idea of evolution proposes to genetically engineer living and breathing creatures that can “ultimately be programmed to live indefinitely.” These lab monsters will be done with special DNA to let the commanders know their whereabouts and to make them ridged so that the enemy cannot reprogram them. DARPA’s project seems standing at a rift with the laws of nature and bioethics, but it is too early to be commenting on that.
