Creeping snake robots will help in rescue operations
Vikas Shekhawat | Apr 14 2006

If you’re able to get out of the clutches of the gorgeous female robot we introduced last week, there’re snakes sneaking around, but don’t worry they’re sans any poison and are on a mission. Developed by Howie Choset, the snakelike robots will hopefully track people under collapsed buildings or other natural disasters.

Dubbed as “Breadstick” and “Pepperoni”, these remote-controlled snakes can climb up and around pipes and can deftly penetrate rubble tracing trapped victims. Packed with electronic sensors, electric motors and servos the creeping machines can be easily controlled with a joystick.
