It’s the computer age personified, with scientists at IBM developing a computerized voice, which can convincingly utter ums, ers and sighs - and is almost indistinguishable from a human voice. The developed technology, called the “generating paralinguistic phenomena” (recently patented), would have a profound effect on the physiology of the listener, when the tech is used in telephone helplines, satellite navigation systems, cameras or even iPods owing to the wonderfully programmed verbal tics. There could be lot many other applications where the voice technology could be effectively used, and what about the BPOs?
