Chilin Tech 1080p projector uses LEDs
Bradley Wint | Sep 4 2008

Chilin Technology been able to come up with an LED-based projector that is set to replace the conventional models that use UHP lamps. The high end 1080p projector uses LED liquid cooling technology, which allows for very high contrast display (100,000:1); as well as 80% more color gamut, allowing for the use of 128% NTSC color gamut. The unit is also able to display 600 lumens’ worth of lighting, with very little energy, because of the use of LED technology rather than using a UHP lamp. Chilin estimates that this projector has a lifespan of 50,000 hours rather than the usual 3000-10000 hours of the standard lamps used today.

It’s hard to believe that projection could be finally fine-tuned to the point where we can save lots of energy as well as enjoy possibly crystal clear images and videos. This is certainly a jump for projection, just as how we moved from slide projectors to our modern-day electronic projectors.

Chilin partnered with technology powerhouse, Texas Instruments, to develop the DMD technology and Luminus Devices that went into creating the PhlatLight LED technology used in this project. The projector is set for display at the CEDIA Expo in Denver this week, so if you are in the area, stop by to check it out.
