There is this huge misconception floating around that robots that are designed today would evolve in to some monstrous creatures in future that would take over the planet and kill us one by one to wipe out our race. As appealing as that might sound, it is nothing beyond a Hollywood fantasy that looks good on screen. The mechanic marvels are here to serve us and make our lives easier and I say we enjoy the service when we have a chance.
The 4-feet-8-inches Care-O-bot 3 is built to “relieve us of heavy, dirty, monotonous or irksome tasks.” Developed by the Fraunhofer Institute for Manufacturing Engineering and Automation IPA, it has a single arm with three fingers and was specifically made to serve drinks and similar. The Care-O-bot 3 is equipped with laser scanners, 3-D range camera, and stereo-vision color cameras which allow the robot to identify objects. This really sounds cool and wonderful too. The 3-D range camera can be controlled via integrated touch screen, although the current prototype could also be operated using speech commands.
Now I exactly do not know how this works beyond that as they have not shipped one of these to me for a review and I am hoping that they read this and ship one to me at the earliest. I would be delighted to give a detailed review of Bot then and while it is here, maybe it could move around a few stuff for me while I sip on my drink. Now when is it coming?
