Bioreactor installation uses photosynthesis to get oil from algae
Bharat | Aug 18 2009

Oil is a necessity in modern life, and combining art with necessity for fuel, Emergent Architecture has designed an aquarium-like bioreactor installation, which is filled with green algae colonies that produce oil through the magic of photosynthesis. Made from thick transparent acrylic, the Flower Street BioReactor is based on the Bio-feedback Algae Controller, invented by OriginOil, which uses colored LED lights to maintain ideal conditions for algae growth at different stages. With a solar array mounted to collect energy during day and creating a self-adjusting growth system within the installation, the acrylic with reflection from the LEDs combines to make this true bio-feedback system, which gets algae to produce alternate fuel.
