Apple patents touch-sensing to unmount external drives

Detaching or dismounting external USB devices from the host computer is time consuming (impatience calls in), while for many like me, who forget to follow the correct dismounting procedures advocated by different operating systems, it’s only a data losing process. However, with Apple’s latest patent reveal, Apple product owners could have the dismounting procedure simplified to a mere touch.

The new technology worked out by Brett Alten, Apple’s director of patent development, suggests that the users will be able to dismount their flash drives et al, from the host system, Macs and MacBooks, by touching the device, which would initiate an auto-dismounting. The touch will be read as a command for unplugging the device, making the entire system more precise and quick. Hey, just mind the touch though; for even the slightest fiddle with the external drive will unplug it.
