Qualcomm may still have to make a choice of a brand partner for an e-reader, but they have made clear that the e-reader that’ll debut in fall 2010 will feature the company’s full-color non-volatile MEMS-based display. The MEMS display measuring 5.7-inch with 1,024 by 768 pixel resolution is what the e-reader would support. The color Mirasol technology requires no backlight and uses only ambient light to reflect. This technology for display uses MEMS structure combined with thin film optics to create interferometric modulation. There is no flash refresh rate required by the display, therefore it accounts for lesser power consumption, but still is good to run videos at 30-frame per second.
