How do you like the idea of having a skateboard that does all the work by itself and leaves the fun element for you? An abstract wish, right? Well, you are wrong, and that too with a capital ‘R’. I agree this is abstract, but then again, even abstract dreams see the light of the day if the dreamer is determined. PopSci staff photographer John Carnett is one such dreamer who has created a motorized skateboard that is capable of going as fast as 20 mph. Carnett’s motorized skateboard is designed to run on smooth roads as well as rough terrains with equal grace. The 60lbs skateboard is made using a 44-inch-long aluminum deck and features eight-inch inflatable knobby tires. The heart of this all-terrain skateboard is the 500-watt electric motor and four powerful sealed lead-acid batteries. Though the motor runs on two batteries, the other two are there to provide the necessary backup and take you another eight miles.
That’s not all folks. The best part is that the skateboard is also equipped with a rear-wheel disc brake and hand-controlled accelerator and brake levers. The foot bindings give you the much-needed support on your off-road trips. All in all this sturdy and mean machine is a pure delight for anyone who likes the rush of adrenaline in his veins.
