A world without keyboards, headed for speech control - Bill Gates
Mahua | Feb 23 2008

It is inevitable and the day is not too far when it happens. This is not impossible and we already have thought about it, but when it comes from an authority like Bill Gates, then we do believe it. Now, before you get all confused on what I am speaking about, Bill Gates recently acknowledging the growth of touch and speech sensitive interfaces computer use. Gates, speaking at a conference at Carnegie Mellon University, said software growth will lead to keyboards being completely out of business in our day to day internet use. This speech was addressed to over 1200 student, as a part of this eminent person’s farewell tour. Gates will retire form his active career at Microsoft and involve himself in philanthropy July onwards.

Microsoft, which has been doing a lot to encourage students and young inventors, trying to work closely with educational institutes, seems to have made it a point to let computer science reach a broader spectrum. Gates stated that in a few years, internet search would be able to take voice commands, effectively minimizing the use of keyboards.

Keeping mind the advancement that we have already seen in the computer software field, this doesn’t really surprise us!
